Keep the kids amused with the game of Battleships. Frist, print out two copies of the Battleship game, one for each player. Rules and game play: Plot all of your ships by drawing an outline of each ship on the grid according to its size. For example, a battleship is four blocks, but an aircraft carrier is five blocks. Smile (in a kind and gentle way) and offer to play another game. If they're WAY younger then you (for instance your 5 or 6 year old child, brother/sister, cousin, niece/nephew, grandchild, etc), then take it easier on them. Maybe let them win a little to encourage their desire to play more, thus practice more, thus get better at it faster. Please be as detailed as you can when making an answer. Classic Mode:

Rules for BattleShip (a Milton Bradley Game)

Game Objective

The object of Battleship is to try and sink all of the other player's beforethey sink all of your ships. All of the other player's ships are somewhere onhis/her board. You try and hit them by calling out the coordinates of oneof the squares on the board. The other player also tries to hit your shipsby calling out coordinates. Neither you nor the other player can see theother's board so you must try to guess where they are. Each board in thephysical game has two grids: the lower (horizontal) section for theplayer's ships and the upper part (vertical during play) for recording theplayer's guesses.

Starting a New Game

Each player places the 5 ships somewhere on their board. The ships canonly be placed vertically or horizontally. Diagonal placement is not allowed. Nopart of a ship may hang off the edge of the board. Ships may not overlapeach other. No ships may be placed on another ship.

Once the guessing begins, the players may not move the ships.

The 5 ships are: Carrier (occupies 5 spaces), Battleship (4), Cruiser(3), Submarine (3), and Destroyer (2).

Playing the Game

Player's take turns guessing by calling out the coordinates. The opponentresponds with 'hit' or 'miss' as appropriate. Bothplayers should mark their board with pegs: red for hit, white for miss.For example, if you call out F6 and your opponent does not have any ship locatedat F6, your opponent would respond with 'miss'. You record themiss F6 by placing a white peg on the lower part of your board at F6. Youropponent records the miss by placing.

How To Play Battleship On Paper

When all of the squares that one your ships occupies have been hit, the shipwill be sunk. You should announce 'hit and sunk'. Inthe physical game, a red peg is placed on the top edge of the vertical board toindicate a sunk ship.

How To Play Electronic Battleship

As soon as all of one player's ships have been sunk, the game ends.
